Tonight is the last night of the Jewish Festival of Lights, Chanukah. So today I have one last Chanukah image for you. This is an illustration of a variety of hanukiahs [the nine-branched menorahs used at Chanukah], originally published in the early 1900s in the Jewish Encyclopedia. I found this illustration on Wikipedia Commons. Click on it to see it/download it full-sized.

This is postcard from the digital collections of the Prints and Photographs division of the Library of Congress. The record says that this lovely lady, from 1921,  is an ‘Entertainer’ from the ‘Butler Cafe Revue’ in Seattle, WA. There isn’t any more information than that. But I do like her dancing costume. Oops, forgot to schedule this one to go up. Lucky I am having a sleepless night, I suppose. Our kitten is not helping though – she keeps trying to sleep with her head on the keyboard.

Today’s post has three old photographs – Victorian era by the clothing. These were in a pile of old photographs I bought at an estate sale. I have no idea who they are – none of them had any markings to tell who the people are. The two kids in the one portrait look quite happy, though. Much more so than the people in the other photos.

As always, click on an image to see it full sized.

But that last one – I keep having an urge to make some silly Monty-Python-esque animation out of it. It would suit, don’t you think?

Peace,

Bekka

Here we go again with an image found at the Commons at Wikipedia.org. It’s a bit like a gold mine – you have to sift through a lot of dirt, but you can often find some really nice nuggets.

These are all of Theda Bara in the classic 1917 silent film Cleopatra. That’s some costume with the “stratigically placed” fabric stars in the first picture, don’t you think? No wonder our grandfathers and great-grandfathers were all mooning over her! :)
